Servlet/JSP Cookbook

As soon as I have money, I'm so running down to Borders and grabbing this book.

i almost got that book. it was between that and this. i picked Java Server Pages 3rd edition instead because it seemed better for me as a jsb n00b.

I would highly recomend Core Servlets & JavaServer Pages, 2nd. ed., Vol. 1 and most likely Vol. 2 (More Servlets & JavaServer Pages) once the second edition is released.

Very straight forward, starts with the basics and continues to build on them as you progress through the book. Vol. 1 is geared toward new Servlet & JSP developers, while Vol. 2 is the more advanced topics.

Well, I have the basics down cold. That's why I was interested in the cookbook, it's a collection of tips and tricks.

Sounds like a good book, Belisarius. Pick me up a copy. Just an aside, but these days I only buy from a physical bookstore when I'm in a hurry. Check out Bookpool if you haven't already. The prices are great for techie books.

I'll be sure to keep it in mind next time I buy a techie book online. It's just sometimes I have an urge for instant gratification.

I usually get my books from Borders (or online at Amazon). I've tried Barnes and Noble, but (at least in my area) they don't carry near the amount or quality of Tech books compared to Borders.

Unless you're looking for ceritification books or whatever is trendy at the time.

(Of course, your mileage may vary...)

Just noticed you're from Rochester. You go to RIT?

And my experience with B&N has been pretty much the same.

Yeah. I graduated RIT in 2000 from the BioMedical Computing program (combination of CS, IT, & Bio majors).

Although I'm not working in the field at the moment, I am getting J2EE (and possibly J2ME) experience which will translate anywhere. I've got a good job now, like what I do and who I work with, so unless that changes...
