flush output to browser

in php, there is a function called flush()

it basically dumps everything to the browser, then keeps processing the script.

is there anything like this for java?

In JSP, there's an "autoFlush" property to the page you can set. There's a buffer that continiously fills as long as the page is being processed, and is flushed when it fills up.
