Referencing files within a table

this has probably been discussed before, but how do i get the contents of another page to appear within a specific table of any other page?

let's say i have a page of file name menu.html that i want to appear in a specific table (i.e the location is not necessarily the upper 50% of the page, or the 33% portion to the left, etc) of every page of my site. the problem is that this menu.html file gets added to all the time; and every time i add a new link to the menu, i don't want to have to go back and add the link to every single page that i'd already made before the link existed.

is Java and/or frames a must or is there another alternative?

you either need iframes, a websrver that supports server side includes, or a serverside scripting language. You could also use a centrally maintained javascript file rewrite the pages on load but that'd be really ugly (not complicated, just ugly).
