CSS Background Image postion left not working?

Ok I know, I'm evil for using a table in the first place, but I was in a rush.

My problem is simply stated but making me insane. When using background style for a table cell, the left position placement it would seem does not work.

For example:

background-position: 20px 0px;
background-repeat: repeat-x;
background-image: url("/temp/images/TechQA/QATM.gif");
Or
background-position-x: 20px;
background-position-y: 0px;
background-repeat: repeat-x;
background-image: url("/temp/images/TechQA/QATM.gif");
Or
background: url("/temp/images/TechQA/QATM.gif") repeat-x 20px 0px;

None of these variations actually move the background image away from the left when the class is being applied to a row or cell in a table. Adjusting the Y works fine, just not the X. Am I missing something obvious here?

Thanks for any help, or even if you haven't got any ideas, thanks in advance for not ridiculing me!

Bah, workarounds.

Bah, workarounds.

I changed the background image width to 900px, put it on no repeat, and there ya go. Now it's positioned 10 over.

I was using the 1 px wide repeating image to save kb, but as it turns out, I went from 883 bytes to 1.42 kb so ..... essentially weightless.

Thanks for lookin!
