html/css templates / design ideas

yeah the title sucks..

I'm wondering if anyone has links/tips to help my nill design skills?

eg: Some nice looking templates with various color combo's that make sense..

I have several PHP-based apps that I really need to give a cohesive feel and some better color options.

i used to have good links to lists of websites which may inspire better design, but i don't anymore. i think a friend at work has some links .. i'll post back tomorrow. they aren't necessarily good tutorials, how-tos, or even great examples if you view source, .. more like just asthetically pleasing.

maybe they are programmed well, i never looked at them for the source though.

For some inspiring CSS work, you can check out www.csszengarden.com. As for a lack of design skills in general, well how much time do you want to put into this? If you actaully want to get good, I'd say grab a book on color theory and another one on shape and form in design. In four years at Art school, that's what it's all about. If you're not really that interested in dedicating a whole bunch of time, I know a few designers that work cheap. Starving art students and all that.

Found csszengarden last night. Looks pretty nice.

Well, I don't want to spend any time on it as I'm not really interested in design; only the backend stuff. I shouldn't say any, but I have better things to do.

Most of the stuff I'm doing right now is intranet/internal app type things, so while there's no need for a polished public front, users ultimately respond well to nice (ok, decent) looking apps. Pretty amazing how good the feedback was when I jazzed up one app last year. (functionality was added, but not that much)

For now I've, uh, borrowed some inspiration from PEAR and that seems to work for now.

Although any other materials are appreciated.
