countdown timers

I realize that the subject "Countdown Timers" is not the burning issue in JavaScript today, but I've just spent two days looking thu the web for a countdown timer with the following features:

1. Counts down for a general time-period (e.g. 3 or 5 days), but NOT from or to a specific date;
2. Format: 71:16:35 (hrs, mins, secs);
3. Starts automatically when window opens (no need for start, stop, or restet button);
4. Can be shown in 2 or more locations on the page synchronously -- e.g., top, middle, bottom of a long page.

I know some basic things about JavaScript, but this is over my head. Any help would be appreciated. There are 5 million scripts for counting down to a date. But I was not able to find any like I've described.

The purpose of such a timer would be for effect -- obviously, no one is going to leave a page open for 3-5 days! The page I want to put it on is listed below. The timer on this page now is very nice, but I don't need all the buttons on it, and I don't know how to get rid of the button without destroying the timer -- or spending a lot of time on it. This timer also has to be kickstarted with a start button, and viewers can change the numbers on the timer, which I don't want. Here's the page.

Thanks for any help,
Gary

PS: I posted this message in the tutorials section and was advised to post here.

on that page i don't see the timer.

do you want everybody visiting your site to see the same thing? (that will require more than just javascript)

the reason i say that is i believe there is plenty of code already out there that yyou can modify to what you descibed.

have you checked this place out for javascript code?

Thanks for replying. I moved the page after I wrote my note. It's here now:

I also thought I had a solution. This is a different counter than the original one, and it works fine in IE. But not at all in Netscape Navigator 7.1 Java IS enabled (and the calendar above it works fine. I have two scripts on that page. I've tried removing the top one, but that has no effect. A wrote to the developer, but haven't had time to hear anything yet. Thanks.

Sorry, yes, I had been to that web page, and yes I would like for everyone to see the same thing. If JavaScript is not sufficient, what will I need?

so it will be counting down, and if i see 2 days and 3 minutes left on the timere, you will see that also?
to do that you would need a database, and maybe php and javascript working together or maybe a java applet, flash would work well too.

Thanks! I now will remove the whole thing. I just don't have time to learn all of that. But I do appreciate your information.
