Really simple question...

Yo, I am trying to get some new shiznit to work, and I am forced to use Dreamweaver (bleh ) because I have very little time. Now, I have the graphics and stuff done but for some reason, I am not able to get this text field to work...

Once again, sorry about teh dreamweaver sh*t...

javascipt errors.

simplify your tables.
all that ROWSPAN and COLSPAN makes is much more complicated than it needs to be. that probaly has something to do with it being all jacked up.

also, you want your table centered?

you can use a table and then just center align it rather than using a bunch of <br>'s on the top...

<br> tags would only affect vertical alignment right?

align=center aligns it horizontally

so maybe you mean valign=middle ?

but then valign=middle is default.

i'm confused.

there are a bunch of <br> tags at the top of his page. that will only center the site within specific browser sizes. using my method (although nonstandard) should center it in all browser sizes.

I have nothing useful to contribute to the thread, I'd just like to point out the irony between the subject 'Really simple question...' and two page lengths of convoluted code and JS that followed. Classic.

uhmm, excuse me for asking, but what's the text field supposed to do?

It works for me in IE6/Win -- I can see the text fine. what browser doesn't it show up in?

You need interactivity? Allow me to suggest <input type="text">

On the other hand, if you just want it to look much cooler, I'd change the text styling with CSS or even replace it with a custom ultracool graphic done in Photoshop.

btw, the layout also seems to break at the same point. If the markup didn't have so many unquoted att-values, it'd probably be easy to find the glitch by validating the page, so I won't suggest that...

I have no idea as to what you're trying to acheive, sorry... otherwise I might be able to help...
If you're trying to fix the layout, a good start would be to remove
the </tr> from just before <!-- problem starts here --> and the <tr>
from just after it. This at least gets the 'SIG' part to connect to
the lower black part.
But for all I know you want the height retained...
I'm not sure there's much more I can do on inspection, I'd have to
get some paper and draw out the tables to see how they work. But, as
I said, I don't even know if what I'm guessing you want is what you
want...


[EDIT] I hate broken tables in forums... I put some breaks in
my post so you shouldn't have to scroll the page to read it :/

[EDITē] I looked over the page, and if the layout is what
you're trying to fix, this should do it (unless I've forgotten
something).

Remove the </tr> <tr> which are wrapping <!-- problem starts here -->, as I said before.

Remove the rowspan="2" from the next line (the one with the background).

Remove the </tr> <tr> which are wrapping <!-- end -->.

I also suggest removing the heights from everything, and the widths from everything except the spacers. But this isn't required.

hmmm... just had time to check the link in N7/Win, and it
looks much better.

Of course, still not sure which problem you're working
on with so many in the page. Cross-browser rendering is not
too good though. At least NS7 doesn't show that huge white
gap in the layout under the 'banner.'

Frankly, I think the real problem could be that your copy
of DW is corrupted, as DW by itself isn't normally capable of
creating such a mess in the markup. On the other hand, maybe
you're still learning DW, and after using it for awhile decided
to go in and add new markup by hand.

If your problem was with the layout, it wouldn't hurt to try some
of what DarkTwilkitri suggested.

If you're not too confused by the HTML, though, then you're
probably much better off just scrapping what you have and starting
over so you don't have to muck with all the mistakes and extra
markup. And that'll also keep it from being such a pain in the butt
if or whenever you decide to make changes to it in the future.
