operating systems is longer and doesn't make any more sense than just systems because of the context of the website. So, since it's shorter it's more efficient both to type and to load on a users web page.
Webmasters are constantly refining their webpages to try and cut out the fat anywhere possible to make their website the best experience possible for users. I'm sure this was the driving force behind systems as opposed to operating systems, efficiency. It's the way of the programmer, hopefully.
