SCO suits target two big Linux users

The SCO Group is targeting lawsuits at auto parts retailer AutoZone and automaker DaimlerChrysler in its continuing legal battle over the Unix and Linux operating systems.

The software company alleges that AutoZone "violated SCO's Unix copyrights by running versions of the Linux operating system that contain code, structure, sequence and/or organization from SCO's proprietary Unix System V code in violation of SCO's copyrights," it said in a statement released on Wednesday.

Spokesman Blake Stowell said on Wednesday that SCO also filed suit against DaimlerChrysler in Michigan's Oakland County Circuit Court for alleged violations of the automotive company's Unix software agreement with SCO.

Stuttgart, Germany-based DaimlerChrysler, which has U.S. offices in Auburn Hills, Mich., was not immediately available for comment.

*begin rant*

I'm sorry, but this is starting to me off. SCO needs to just stop what they are doing. Linux has done nothing to them, and they are only hurting themselves within the opensource community. So what if 'some' code got into an opensource project, thousands of people have written their own strreverse function, doesn't mean that microsoft should sue every programmer from the linux world saying "you stole our code!." I know these functions are more important than a strreverse, but the same principle applies. Furthermore, why the heck is SCO even bothering to bring the auto-industry into this. I don't blame Compaq because they put windows on their computers, and I incidentally hate windows. Blame Microsoft, the makers of windows! This entire thing is getting out of hand, and should just stop.

*end rant*

Sorry, had to get some steam off.

Now if everybody could just start doing what insecure.org is doing and ban the use of their applications by any SCO affiliated OS or group, then all would be good. Good job Fyodor!
