Deitel and Deitel books are generally crap, I don't care where they went to school. And just because you're good at programming doesn't mean you're adept at teaching others to program.

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with taking programming classes. I've taken them. I even took a Java class. Did i have to take it to learn the language? No, not really. Do i take offense at people who give newer programmers crap for trying to learn? You bet.
