So if I understood your post correctly, you would like to learn graphics, and KDE is your environment. You are also a beginning to intermediate programmer (?).
Ok, that means you have Qt2 or the Qt3 environment. You have also KDevelop.
Since you have Q2(2/3) you might want to learn the Qt version of OpenGL.
Your steps: Make sure you have a firm grasp of C++. Make sure you can handle KDevelop well. Then learn OpenGL with Qt. The latter is not my line of expertise. But the tutorials are out "there".
