Since Microsoft dominates the web as a client, they have discontinued the
Fonts for the Web program. You can still download quality fonts from several places online such as:
Older, non-true type fonts like .fon files, come with installers and require a wineboot to simulate a windows reboot for wine. Most of the .ttf files can be downloaded and placed (unzipped if needed) in any wineprefix (e.g. ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts) without even the need to run wineboot.

wine HQ. In particular, the appdb articles on Valve's steam discuss the proprietary Tahoma font for which you need to see Steam's menus and dialog boxes. Like many of the fonts from Microsoft, possessing them requires a valid license for Microsoft Windows.
