i'm trying to setup mysql on a rh7.2 box and the service will not stay on.

/etc/init.d/mysqld start works fine, .. it shows me a big green "ok" on the screen .. but then a "mysql" command does not work.

when i try to restart it
/etc/init.d/mysqld restart , .. the stopping of the service shows "failed" like was never on .. then restarts like normal.

i've installed, .. erased, and re-installed and updated, i can't get this damn thing working.

anyone experience this?
