Did you move/replace/add harddrive's?
Did you modify your BIOS?
Did repair/change/upgrade Windows XP?

these are just some steps that cause GRUB not finding the linux boot section anymore.
Due to the fact that /boot/ is used by grub to load the boot configuration.
