CSS changing default text in BODY tag

I'm having serious problems with using CSS to change the way all text appears by default.

I would appreciate if people could lend a hand.

I want CSS to change the text even if it's not in a P tag. I can change the P tag but not if it's outside the P tag. If I remember, I should be changing the text formating using the BODY tag in the CSS file but it's a complete disaster.
