I've just downloaded Symfony and looked at the source.
IMHO it sucked in using the PHP5 capabilities so i've deleted it.

Working on a PHP 5 framework myself and didn't find usefull stuff in Symfony for it either.
When my Open Source project is ready for an alpha i will keep ya informed, but for now i think you're better of with a PHP 4 framework.
