Getting X to work in Debian

So I've installed woody , and from what I can see it looks to be a capible, quality os. But the one glaring problem I still have is that i can't seem to get X to work. I apt-got kde and configured it in hopes that would correct it, but it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

(besides running XF86Config )
