Problems with very simple VC++

I'm trying to make an extremely simple dialog based program in VS.NET. The Dialog box has an edit control box, ok button, and cancel button. First thing I did was add an event handler for the Ok button, which had a message box pop up displaying "You Clicked Ok". The next thing I tried to do was handle some varialbes. so I right clicked on the edit control, add variable. I made an uncontrolled CString variable (the book Im using said to). Then I went back to the event handler, added in UpdateData(TRUE); and changed the text in AfxMessageBox from "You Clicked Ok" to MessageText (name of variable). It compiles fine, links fine, but no matter what text I put in the edit control, when I click Ok it just brings up an empty message box. I know I probably forgot something painfully obvious, but I really dont know much using the visual stuff.
Heres the cpp:
Code:
// HellDialgDlg.cpp : implementation file
//

#include "stdafx.h"
#include "HellDialg.h"
#include "HellDialgDlg.h"
#include ".\helldialgdlg.h"

#ifdef _DEBUG
#define new DEBUG_NEW
#endif

// CAboutDlg dialog used for App About

class CAboutDlg : public CDialog
{
public:
	CAboutDlg();

// Dialog Data
	enum { IDD = IDD_ABOUTBOX };

	protected:
	virtual void DoDataExchange(CDataExchange* pDX);    // DDX/DDV support

// Implementation
protected:
	DECLARE_MESSAGE_MAP()
};

CAboutDlg::CAboutDlg() : CDialog(CAboutDlg::IDD)
{
}

void CAboutDlg::DoDataExchange(CDataExchange* pDX)
{
	CDialog::DoDataExchange(pDX);
}

BEGIN_MESSAGE_MAP(CAboutDlg, CDialog)
END_MESSAGE_MAP()

	: CDialog(CHellDialgDlg::IDD, pParent)
	, MessageText(_T(""))

// The system calls this function to obtain the cursor to display while the user drags
//  the minimized window.

}

void CHellDialgDlg::OnBnClickedOk()
{
	UpdateData(TRUE);
	AfxMessageBox(MessageText);
	//OnOK();
}
and the header file:
Code:
// HellDialgDlg.h : header file
//

#pragma once

// CHellDialgDlg dialog
class CHellDialgDlg : public CDialog
{
// Construction
public:
	CHellDialgDlg(CWnd* pParent = NULL);	// standard constructor

// Dialog Data
	enum { IDD = IDD_HELLDIALG_DIALOG };

	protected:
	virtual void DoDataExchange(CDataExchange* pDX);	// DDX/DDV support

// Implementation
protected:
	HICON m_hIcon;

	// Generated message map functions
	virtual BOOL OnInitDialog();
	afx_msg void OnSysCommand(UINT nID, LPARAM lParam);
	afx_msg void OnPaint();
	afx_msg HCURSOR OnQueryDragIcon();
	DECLARE_MESSAGE_MAP()
public:
	afx_msg void OnBnClickedOk();
	CString MessageText;
};
-do I need to show ou any other files?
