Microsoft vs. Borland

I have an older version of Borland C++ Builder which I have used years ago to do some console programming and I think I even did some really basic GUI programming with it. Thing is the book I have which is Teach Yourself in 24 hours isn't that good. It just covers a little bit with very few working programs in them. There are a few books on Amazon that cover Borlands tool but there are quite a bit more books that cover Microsofts tool. I'm not sure how far I might get into windows programming with C++, as I'm also considering doing some Java as well. What development tools do you guys use for C++? I'm kind of leaning towards Microsoft since there are far more books on how to use their tools, especially the Deitel books which have always been a favorite of mine.
